PAOC global workers in Romania and Spain, Dan & Mardie M, share about what’s happening in Bucharest. Recently, they have spent time in Canada addressing medical needs for Mardie, but thank God, things have turned the corner! Here is their story of the Ukrainian family and the growth of the local church:
After fleeing war-torn Ukraine with her four children, Ina found temporary safety in Bucharest. But living apart from her husband for more than three years left her feeling overwhelmed and weary.
“People are traumatized,” said Vera, our church worker with the displaced Ukrainians. “It’s still hard. People are ‘stuck’, frustrated and afraid of so many things. They need some help and guidance as they move on.”
Vera remembered the empty house across from her parent’s home in the safer, northwest area of the Ukraine and made rental arrangements for the family. Though it would require work to set up yet another home in a new city, Ina was grateful that her husband could now come to live with the family once again.
The opportunities to minister to the varied cultural groups coming into Bucharest increases daily. Those in leadership have lacked full-time workers to come alongside and assist to the needed degree, so we find our partnership supports their vision. We work with the Bucharest International Church and their five language groups. The English international gathering is at 90% seating capacity, with new leadership stepping up, outreach taking place and families integrating into the church community.
PRAY our partnership with local leadership in Bucharest continues to strengthen local ministries and the English gathering will find creative ways to make room for more to join.
PRAY for Ina and her family, and others like her, making tough choices during the ongoing war.
PRAY for ongoing health for Mardie as she recovers from recent challenges, and for both Mardie and Dan as they follow God’s leading in their work in Bucharest.
