Unlocking Change

Unlocking Change

Equipping Initiative

In 2024, we were privileged to partner with the Assemblies of God Mozambique to bring the Gospel to a most unexpected place—behind prison walls. A group of Bible College students felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to minister to prisoners in a nearby penitentiary. God touched the hearts of these inmates and over 250 came to faith in Christ.

Their desire for spiritual growth resulted in an unforeseen request—they wanted to become Bible students just like those who ministered to them. They couldn’t leave prison so how could this desire for more of Jesus be granted? Bible College Director, Medard, responded by developing a two-year Bible College program that could be taught inside the prison. The program launched with 80 new believers—40 men and 40 women—eager to grow in their faith. Within a year, the transformation was so profound that even the prison director was moved, remarking that the change in these inmates was unlike anything seen in other rehabilitation programs.

One such inmate, whom we will refer to as Susan*, entered prison carrying the weight of her past mistakes. Life behind bars is often marked by loneliness, despair and danger, but what if God could rewrite Susan’s story? She found Christ and entered the Bible College Prison program. Susan’s life has been transformed. Now released from prison, she is eager to continue her Bible education and share her faith with others.

Medard’s vision for the program’s expansion to five prisons, with an expected reach of 400 inmates participating, is well underway. We look forward to seeing more inmates across Mozambique experience this life-changing program in the years to come, as the Gospel continues to transform lives behind prison walls.
