PAOC Global Worker, Louise Charbonneau, recalls a day when her belated husband, Michel, came alongside a suffering family:
On a sunny morning in Haiti, a father left for work. His business was in an area of frequent fighting between gangs and the police. His wife advised him not to go, but he had four young children to feed, including a baby. When he arrived at the scene, he heard gunfire and received a shot in the head. He died the same day. When Michel heard this story, he sent someone to visit the mother and offered to enroll two of her children in the ChildCARE Plus (CCP) sponsorship program. This tangible help is the strength of CCP. We can never replace the loss of a father, but we can ensure the family has a chance to survive.
Louise continues:
God was gracious to me, and I was able to board a helicopter free of charge to get to the north of the country. The gang war has displaced a million people. Men and women, young and old, are suffering deeply. Some of them love the Lord and others do not. Fortunately, schools, including ours, churches and businesses in our area are open. Merchants are fleeing the areas attacked by armed gangs to trade on the sidewalks of safer neighbourhoods. In some places, they are overflowing into the streets, making traffic difficult.
Amid this chaos, young people and children have given their lives to Jesus, and many want to be baptized in water.
